Building the Wall

Dad decided to scrap the old wall as the old one was only going to be able to cover 38 ft. The top of the new wall will protect up to 41'. It will be construscted out of 2x6's instead of 2x4s.

Preparation

Dad decided to take the oportunity while the weather was nice to clear the area around where we will be building our dike.

Introduction

This blog will be documenting the spring flood fight of 2009 at 3607 Riverview Circle in Moorhead, MN. My parents moved into the house in 2000, and we have successfully fought flood ever since. The house was lost in 1997 at a whopping 39.5ft crest. In 2006, we held the 37.13 crest with a few inches to spare. This year our dike will need to be bigger and better. We plan on making a dike big enough to hold a 38.5" Crest. If the water exceeds 38.5, we have determined that it will be a lost cause as the water will start coming around from the sides of the house and into the front yard. I will try to update this blog as much as possible.
